How is it over in Otautahi?

It has been very good weather out here.... so far. I hope you’r not having to much trouble looking after Gizmo.
Oh and please don’t let him in the bathroom.
He tends to drink the toilet water.
Hope to see you guys soon.

Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country. If it was me, I would have felt really nervous…

  1. Kia Ora Jedi,

Another great post - you are off to a fantastic start for the Summer Learning Journey :)

You wrote a lovely letter to your friend, Parwin. I was very impressed with your use of the letter structure. I enjoyed reading your letter, and it really made me think. What kind of animal is Gizmo? I once had a rabbit named Gizmo, (but it would have been pretty difficult for her to reach up to drink the water in the toilet) and I am guessing Gizmo is a dog?

I also liked how you said that the weather had been good "so far". What do you think it would have been like to be caught in a storm on one of those early rafts? I think it would have been pretty scary.

  2. Hey Jedi,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team 2018. I will also be reading your blog this summer and I look forward to blogging with you :)

I love how you've written a letter in a accurate letter structure! Did you find the format online? I like how you made your letter really personal by adding in some pronouns 'I' and 'Gizmo'. I wonder what kind of animal Gizmo is?

You writing made me imagine the scene and I wanted to carry on reading! Perhaps you could add a little bit more detail to describe your situation on the waka and your journey to the new land. What kind of food did you eat? Did anyone fight on the waka?

I would love to hear back from you, I look forward to reading more of your posts!

    Cheers,
    Jade C.

  3. Morena Jedi.

My name is Clare and I am from the Summer Learning Journey. Its really awesome seeing all the amazing learning you are doing. I teach in the AKO HIKO cluster which is up in the north island in Auckland.

What a great letter you have written. Its got good content and you have really thought about what it would have been like on the Waka and leaving your dog behind. I had a laugh to myself that your dog goes into the bathroom and does that.
I also know someone who has a dog called Gizmo. Its a really great little dog and tiny. What type of dog is this you are talking about in your blog post.

Have you ever moved countries before? Its really crazy moving away from people you know and love.

I hope to hear from you.
    Keep up the fantastic blogging.

  4. Hi Clare,
    Thanks for commenting.

And yes I have moved countries before. I am actually from Fiji. My family and I came her when I was Five.

It was really scary at first. But now I have lots of friends from different countries. We all go to the same school, I would never want to change schools.

But I wouldn't mind going back to Fiji.
Have you been to another country before?

    Thanks for commenting ^._.^
